2024 09/25 – John A. ‘Tony’ Weiss

John Anthony “Tony” Weiss 72, of Centralia, passed away at his home in Centralia on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024.

Tony was born in Centralia on February 6, 1952, the son of Bety Jean (Hammond) and Jack Weis. Tony was blessed to have a wonderful stepfather, John Elis. Tony married Debbie Nicolay in 1972. They were married for 52 years.

Tony graduated from Centralia High School and was proud to be a part of the 1969 Undefeated Orphan “Wild Bunch” Football Team. He also graduated from Kaskaskia Colege and Western Illinois University.

Tony started working at a young age, working in retail at Golde’s, Hutter’s Clothing, Geilhausen as a plumber for the Carlyle Lake project, ICRR switch man and later the Centralia Car shops. Tony was well known as a loan officer at First National Bank of Sandoval retiring after 30-plus years.

Tony was active in the community as a member of the Lions Club, Jaycees, Elks Lodge for 50 plus years, Masonic Lodge for 25 years, American Legion of Colonial Beach, VA, and a baseball coach. He also served as an EMT, Lt. & secretary/treasurer for the Sandoval Fire Dept., as a board member at the Sandoval Methodist Church, Village of Sandoval, and Sandoval Schools. Tony loved bowling, playing softball, golfing, and taking his dogs for ice cream daily.

Tony was a true family patriarch not only to his own family but to others as well. In addition to Debbie, he is survived by daughter: Amber Nicole (Weiss) Timmons of M.t Vernon, son: Todd Anthony (Kathy) Weiss of Sandoval, IL, and son: Kyle Anthony (Sharon) Weiss of Montross, VA. Grandchildren: Trevor Anthony Timmons, Ariel Nicole Timmons, Mack Anthony Weiss, Morgan McKay Weiss, Brittany (Joey) Schuler, & Amanda (Dustin) Collier. Great-grandchildren: Hadlee, Zaylee, Kazan, Elias, and Emmi. Sisters: Becky (Don) Johnson, and Sandy Johnson, sisters-in-law: Marcia Castellari, Lisa (Tom) Watson, brother-in-law: John (Kelly) Nicolay, mother-in-law: Marilyn Nicolay and many nieces and nephews.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather: John Ellis, father-in-law: Tom Nicolay. brother-in-law: Louie Castellari and brother-in-law: Cal Johnson.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 24, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia.
On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 10:00 AM a Celebration of Life Service will be held at the funeral home.
