Delbert Hughey, 88, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:21 am September 12, 2024 at his residence. He was born September 24, 1935 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Fay (Red) and Margaret (Owens) Hughey. Delbert married Sherry (Haynes) Hughey on June 10, 1980 in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
In addition to his beloved wife of forty-four years, Delbert is survived by his sons, Danny Wayne Hamilton of Mount Vernon, John Mark Hamilton of McLeansboro, and Jarrett Winter of McLeansboro; daughters, Debbie Lynn Bowers of McLeansboro, Bethany Dianna Anderson and husband, Mike of Mount Vernon, and Sabrina Nicole Shun and husband, Brian of Franklin, Tennessee; step daughter, Jerri Dawn Lorry; twelve grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; step grandchild, Casey Dawn; sisters, Phyllis Throgmorton and husband, Edward of Branden, Mississippi and Lois Hughey of Branden, Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Delbert was preceded in death by his son, Timothy James Hughey; stillborn daughter, Susan Diane Hughey; step daughter, Rhonda Hamilton; and brother, Jerry Hughey.
Mr. Hughey proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked at the Stove Foundry for twenty-nine years and then Svanda Motors. Delbert was a member of Old Union Missionary Baptist Church.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Egbert Cemetery in Bluford, Illinois. A Graveside Service will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Andy May officiating. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #141. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Delbert’s honor to Old Union Missionary Baptist Church.
