2024 09/16 – Mildred C. Kapp

Mildred C. Kapp, age 98 of Carlyle, passed away at Breese Nursing Home on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Mrs. Kapp was born in Carlyle on December 12, 1925, a daughter of the late Henry L. and Susan (Isaak) Krebs.  She married Wilford Kapp at St. Mary Church in Carlyle on October 4, 1949, and he preceded her in death on December 14, 1989.

Mrs. Kapp is survived by her children – Dennis “Doc” Kapp and wife Roselyn of Beckemeyer, Sharon Kleiner and husband Larry of Greenville, Ken Kapp of Oakland, CA, Larry Kapp of Carlyle, Dallas Kapp and wife Jo-Ann of Florida, and Michelle Kraus and husband Rich of St. Louis; her grandchildren – Jaclyn Barber and husband Josh, Shad Kleiner and wife Liz, Cody Kleiner, Morgan Eubank and husband Eric, Riley Kraus, and Reece Kraus; 11 great grandchildren, and a sister – Enda Holthaus of Beckemeyer.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband – Wilford Kapp; her parents – Henry and Susan Krebs; her siblings – Eugene Krebs and wife Audrey, Elmer Krebs and wife Lucille, and Marcella “Sally” Kampwerth and husband Cornelius “Bud;” and her in-laws – Edward Holthaus, Howard and Catherine Kapp, Helen and George Wuebbles, and Delores and Camelius Markus.

Mildred worked at Moran Shoe Factory for five years before serving children at the Carlyle Grade School cafeteria for 20 years.  She also enjoyed sharing her culinary talents while working at weddings and events for IGA Catering.   Mildred was a beloved member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where she enjoyed volunteering for funeral lunches and anywhere else help was needed. She was a remarkable baker who was known for making the best pies. As an avid quilter and crocheter, she crafted countless gifts for family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 16, 2024, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, celebrant.  Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carlyle.  Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle on Monday from 8:30 – 10:30 AM.
