The City of Centralia Historic Preservation Commission is hosting a meeting Thursday night to explain funding sources for historic building rehabilitation.

Centralia Community Development Director Gayla Harting says incentives are available to help substantially rehabilitate buildings listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places in an historic district such as the Centralia Commercial Historic District.

Harting says The Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer and Tax Incentives Manger for the Illinois State Historic Preservation Office Carol Dyson will be the speaker.

“It’s a time for her to do her seminar and also a Q&A period after that and then she can make private appointments even that evening afterwards as well.”

Harting says income producing property owners (commercial, office, rental residential, and industrial) may qualify for federal or state income tax credits. She’s hopeful the meeting will spur additional redevelopment projects downtown.

Harting reports as of this week 36 are expected to attend. There is no charge to attend the meeting at six Thursday night at Centralia City Hall, but you are asked to RSVP by contacting Harting at Centralia City Hall (618) 533-7623.
