Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville is getting a new 105-million-dollar health sciences building.

The state-of-the-art facility will connect existing buildings, bringing together the schools of nursing and pharmacy. Governor JB Pritzker was on hand last week to kick off the project.

Pritzker said, “With today’s ground breaking, we usher in a new era for Southern Illinois and its world-class university right here. Together, we are building a more prosperous future for the students, faculty, and families of this region.”

The facility will house classrooms, offices, study areas, and a nursing simulation lab connecting two existing buildings and bringing together the schools of pharmacy and nursing.

Pharmacy Dean Mark Luer said, “I’m beyond excited to think about what we will be able to do with a state-of-the-art healthcare facility. There is a pharmacist shortage in the country, and with SIUE being the only pharmacy school in Illinois south of Interstate 80, these new facilities will certainly allow us to help address the needs regionally.”

The project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2025.
