Marion County Highway Engineer Mike McCormick had both good and bad news for the county board Tuesday night on highway projects.
McCormick says the Heinzmann Road from downtown Kell to the Route 161 Extension will reopen to traffic before school begins. He reported the pavement has been completed with some final shoulder and dirt work as well as grass seeding all that remains to be finished. The work upgrades the Heinzmann Road to truck route status.
McCormick reported the county’s grant application for money to replace the Route 161 Extension Bridge over Skillet Fork Creek was rejected. He says they will be seeking other grant funding. The bridge currently had a weight limit due to structural problems and has been down to one lane at time during efforts to shore up the bridge.
McCormick says the Green Street and Odin Road safety improvement project originally slated to go out for bid in October will be bid in March to allow time for plans to be completed.
