Governor JB Priztker has signed a handful of new state laws that will help soldiers, veterans and their families.
One of the laws makes it easier for victims of military sexual assault to get a civil no-contact order of protection. Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director Terry Prince says another deals with death certificates.
“Those that have served and the idea we could put out there that the idea their death can be attributed to their military history which will help with benefits and make lives easier for families during the most difficult of times.”
Other new laws designate the honor and remember flag as the symbol for soldiers who have died in the line of duty and establish criteria for a group to be considered a state-chartered veterans organization.
