A 56-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been sentenced to one year in prison after pleading guilty in Marion County Court to unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

James Shadowens of Stewart Street had two other charges dropped as part of the plea agreement.   They were for possession of under five grams of methamphetamine and for resisting or obstructing a police officer.  He was accused of running and fighting with a State Trooper who arrested him on the drug charges in April 2021.

After getting out of prison, Shadowens was ordered to serve one year of parole.
