A 37-year-old Salem man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for his role in a large-scale methamphetamine operation centered in St. Clair County.

Michael Huffman pleaded guilty in US District Court to one count of distributing methamphetamine, one count of attempted possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, and one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.   The prison term was handed down in October of last year.

The final of his four co-defendants was sentenced to prison this week.   The case involved more than 100 pounds of meth distributed in the Southern District of Illinois in 2019.

Special Agent in Charge Michael A. Davis, who heads of the Drug Enforcement Administration division that leads DEA investigations in Southern Illinois, as well as Missouri and Kansas says despite the attention given to fentanyl, methamphetamine remains the top drug seized by quality in Southern Illinois and is still responsible for destroying many lives.
