Jefferson County Judge Jerry Crisel has sentenced 23-year-old Treyaveon Massie of Evansville, Indiana to a total of 80 years in prison for the first-degree murder of a resident of the Rolling Meadows Trailer Park south of Dix last September.

A jury found Massie guilty of the shooting death during deliberations that lasted just 17 minutes.

Massie received 40 years in prison for the murder in addition to another 40 years for a firearm enhancement.  100 percent of the prison term will have to be served under state law.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies found Cadias Jackson with multiple gunshot wounds after responding to a report of a shooting.   Both deputies and EMS provided care on the scene before Jackson was transported to Crossroads Community Hospital where he passed away from his injuries.

Massie and two others with him including 43-year-old Retha McIntire also of Evansville were later stopped in a van matching the one seen at the scene at Salem Road and North 11th in Mt. Vernon.

McIntire pleaded guilty in May to felony murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Jefferson County State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun and Assistant State’s Attorney Julie Kozuszek handled the prosecution.
