An audience that totaled 520 filled the Salem Community Theatre for two performances of the Princess and the Pea on Saturday that concluded the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s one week theater workshop in Salem.
Co-Director Ashlyn Leonard says everything came together as it always does on show day.
“It was so amazing. The kids showed up everyday ready to work, and did the work that needed to be done. And even at the end of rehearsal we still had kids asking what’s next, and we had to tell them you are going home, you did all the work for the day. They really nailed it.”
The other Co-Director from Missoula, Emma Giltner, says the week brings out a lot of confidence in the kids.
“Even the little kids, they are always on the side of the stage and pull on us and say I’m too scared to go out so we walk together and I walk them to just the edge and they go out there by themselves the rest and they go out there and always say they had so much fun. So it’s great to see them go out there and enjoy their time.”
The two were very complimentary of the theater facility for the event.
Kendra Hermann headed the theatre project for the Salem Community Theatre.
“I thought it was a really good week. It was the 2nd week organizing it. We had 57 and we can only have 60. We keep having awesome alumni come back that also helps the directors too. We had great parents. Last year the rehearsals were closed because of Covid, but having open rehearsals was cool having parents running out I enjoyed it. And it was great for them to see the show come together too.”
Plans are already in the works for the Missoula Children’s Theatre to return next year.
