A 24-year-old Centralia man was injured Friday night when his vehicle ran off West McCord Street in front of the Walgreens store and struck a pole and several street signs before coming to a stop.

Hugo Aguilar of North Maple was arrested for failure to reduce speed, driving under the influence of alcohol, and no driver’s license.  A charge of aggravated battery to a nurse was added after he allegedly spit on a nurse while he was being treated in the emergency room at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.

Aguilar was later transferred to a St. Louis hospital for treatment and was released on a notice to appear on the charges.

The crash occurred at 9:46 Friday night.
