Centralia Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a house filling with smoke at 113 North Harrison in Central City on Saturday morning.
Firemen say the owner had not noticed a filter had fallen down onto the furnace motor. When a new filter was inserted, it caused the furnace motor to overheat and burn up filling the home with smoke.
Firefighters used an ejection fan to clear the home of smoke before leaving the scene after determining there was no spread of fire.
The call came in at 7:40 Saturday morning.
