It was a rough night for the Salem Wildcats varsity baseball team as they fell to Shelbyville/Windsor-Stew Stras 17-4 in a nine-inning game at SCHS Field. Salem led 2-0 after 4 innings, but the visitors from Shelby County took advantage of a pair of errors and scored 7 times in the fifth. They put the game away with 9 more runs in the 8th inning as Salem’s defense made 6 errors in the game.
At the plate, Josh Powless doubled and drove in a run along with Colton Shelton, Ryan Detering and Cooper Lobek also had RBI. Nate Paulson added 2 hits. The trio at the top of the Shelby County lineup featuring Gurgel, Bridges and Meinhart combined to go 8-for- 11 with 8 RBI and 6 runs scored.
Noah Nix got the start for Salem and was solid allowing 2 hits and no runs in his 3 innings of work. Kam Wilkins, Lobek, Shelton, Powless and Paulson all worked innings on the mound as Salem falls to 9-2 on the summer.
