The Salem Varsity Wildcats baseball team is 9-1 this summer after a pair of home wins over Fairfield last night. Salem opened with a 14-4 win in 5 innings, scoring 12 runs in the final 2 innings for the short-game win. Aden Bass doubled twice with extra base hits also from Josh Powless, Jalen Inlow and Rhett Detering. Bass and Inlow combined to drive in 6 runs with RBI also from Kam Wilkins, Gavin Zimmermann, Noah Nix, Powless, Detering and Cooper Lobek. Zimmermann was the winning pitcher going all 5 innings allowing 6 hits and 3 earned runs with 2 strikeouts.
Ryan Detering’s sacrifice fly in the final at bat to give Salem a 6-5 walk-off win in the nightcap. Salem trailed 5-2 in the bottom of the 3rd when they would score a run and then tie it in the fourth before winning in the fifth. Inlow doubled as part of a 3-3 day with a run scored and RBI. Nate Paulson drove in 2 with Detering, Cody Beard also adding RBI.
