Jobs were up and the unemployment rate was down last month in Illinois.
Good news for May says State Department of Employment Security Acting Director Ray Marchiori.
“This is the 8th consecutive month the unemployment rate has fallen or stayed stable statewide. With the rate sitting at 4.1% for the month of May.”
That compares to 4.2% in April. Marchiori is also pleased 2500 jobs were added last month.
“Overall we are seeing indicators of continued economic stability with continued job growth across sectors across the state. And a consistent unemployment rate including labor force participating rate higher than pre-pandemic levels.”
Sectors with the most growth include government, financial activities, education and health services and leisure and hospitality. Losses were seen in the construction and manufacturing industries.
