The Salem Varsity Wildcats swept their home double header with Pinckneyville and are now 7-1 on the summer.
Salem won the opener 13-6 as the Cats plated 8 runs in the 3rd inning. Josh Powless was “That Guy” last night. The senior-to-be was 3-4 with a double, triple and home run and drove in 5 runs while scoring 2. Rhett Detering and Nate Paulson also doubled with Rhett driving in 2 and Paulson adding an RBI. Jalen Inlow, Noah Nix and Ryan Detering also had RBI. Rhett got the win on the mound allowing 8 hits and earned runs with 9 strikeouts.
In Game 2, Keaton Gullion went 2-3 with a run and drove in 3 to lead Salem to an 11-1 victory. Jalen Inlow had 3 RBI, Cooper Lobek had a 2 run double and Gavin Zimmerman drove in a run. Kam Wilkins had 2 hits and 2 runs, Cody Beard had 2 hits and Braden Rector scored twice. Noah Nix started and went 2 innings striking out 6 batters. Kam Wilkins worked the final 5 innings with 1 hit allowed and also struck out 6.
