Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps announced at Tuesday night’s county board meeting that he is adding two volunteer chaplains to the department. He has approached two ministers who are currently praying over the situation.
“Something I wanted to do since I’ve taken over. So I think this will be a great thing if we get that. They will not only help us inside the office but also with death notifications. Somebody we can call to help with some of those things and have a minister there.”
Cripps says if the two decide not to do it, he’ll ask them for other recommendations.
Cripps also asked for a meeting of the Marion County Law Enforcement Committee meeting to discuss body cameras for the deputies. He has prices to share. Cripps wants to implement the body cams ahead of the date they will become state mandated.
He reported 75 currently being housed in the Marion County Jail, including 18 federal prisoners. Two juveniles are also being held in detention.
