PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ke’Bryan Hayes homered for the second straight game, Connor Joe hit a go-ahead two-run double in the sixth and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3. Hayes, whose three-run homer in the previous game helped the Pirates rally from a five-run deficit, tied it in fifth when he took Jordan Montgomery (2-7) into the left-field bleachers. Joe put Pittsburgh in front with a lined shot to the wall in left an inning later as the Pirates pushed their winning streak to four games. Nolan Gorman and Willson Contreras homered for St. Louis. The Cardinals have dropped four of five.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Yu Darvish struck out nine in seven dominant shutout innings, Fernando Tatis Jr. homered twice and the San Diego Padres beat the Chicago Cubs 6-0 on Saturday night. Darvish (4-4) allowed just two singles — Chicago’s only hits of the game — and one walk. Tatis hit a solo homer in the third and a three-run blast in the eighth for his 11th of the season and 10th multi-homer game in his career. Both home runs were to left-center field. Nick Martinez struck out two in the eighth and Brent Honeywell had one strikeout in the ninth to complete the shutout. Cubs starter Drew Smyly (5-3) took the loss, lasting 5-2/3 innings, giving up three runs and seven hits.

CHICAGO (AP) — Yoán Moncada scampered home on a 10th-inning wild pitch that knocked down umpire Cory Blaser, sending the Chicago White Sox to a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers. All three runs in the game were scored on wild pitches. Andrew Benintendi had two hits for the White Sox, who have won three of four. Reynaldo López threw a scoreless 10th for the win. Zack McKinstry tripled and scored for the Tigers.

Elsewhere in the MLB:

LOS ANGELES (AP) — New York Yankees star Aaron Judge knocked open the door of the visiting bullpen at Dodger Stadium while making a spectacular running catch in the eighth inning. Judge might have saved a run for the Yankees with his sprinting catch on J.D. Martinez’s liner into the right field corner. The AL MVP made the catch an instant before running into the bullpen door, which came partly open when he hit it. Judge hung onto the ball, and Max Muncy tagged up and advanced to second for the Dodgers, who trailed 5-3.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The proposal to help finance a new ballpark for Major League Baseball’s Athletics in Las Vegas has revived nationwide debates about public funding for private stadiums, pitting Nevada’s powerful tourism industry and labor unions against some progressive groups raising concerns about ceding tax revenue when services such as public schools are funded below the national average. Proponents say the proposal could create new jobs, increase the state’s general revenue and further diversify the city’s casino and gaming-based economy — all without raising taxes. But skeptics warn that’s a tried-again argument with empty promises, citing growing evidence that minimal dollars generated from the new stadium would not otherwise be spent among nearby resorts and restaurants.
