Kinmundy-Alma Firemen thought they had a big fire late Friday afternoon when they could see black smoke when leaving the fire station. But the fire turned out to be a home being torn down that caught fire when the wind blew a smaller fire burning some of the remains of the home into the structure.
Chief Kevin Day says they were able to keep the fire on the Eddie Baylis property in the 7900 block of Baylis Road from spreading into some nearby outbuildings.
Salem Firemen stood by at the Kinmundy-Alma Fire Station in the event of another fire. Iuka Firemen were canceled before they arrived on the scene.
The fire call came in around 5 Thursday evening with firemen on the scene for about an hour and a half.
