Sleep in Heavenly Peace has now made more than 1,000 beds to assure that kids do not have to sleep on the floor.

A weekend build in the parking lot of the Orchard Shopping Center resulted in 30 more beds being completed.  This build involved a number of high school students, including ten members of the Salem Community High School basketball team.   Coach Pete Colclasure was pleased with how his players didn’t skip a beat in manning most of the build stations.

“Thought this was a really good opportunity to come out and help serve the community and give back.  What a great experience.  They got this thing down to a  T.  All our guys are involved in one way or another working all the different positions.  I’m just glad we get to come out and help make a difference.”

The President of Sleep in Heavenly Peace Kevin Rakers is pleased to see the young people involved.

“Just fun to have kids giving back to kids.  Seeing them do something other than playing ball and running around.”

Rakers says volunteers have now built 1,060 beds.  870 have been delivered to homes in a multi-county area with a waiting list for 30 more to be delivered.

Modern Woodman of America was the sponsor of the build, providing all the lumber.  Box Drop Mattress gave an opportunity for customers to donate a mattress or have a certain amount from purchases donated to buying mattresses for the beds.
