The Salem Lady Cats snapped nearly a 40 year drought of regional championships in softball when they hoisted the plaque at Greenville on Saturday following a tight 4-2 win over Staunton. Salem improved to 24-7 on the season and extends their season. Lilly Blagoue was the winning pitcher and her defense made several fantastic plays over the course of the game to help. Blagoue also blasted a 3-run homer in the bottom of the first inning that erased a 1-0 deficit. Salem would get some insurance on a Miranda Podergois solo homer later in the game. The Lady Cats will play tomorrow at Freeburg against the host Midgets.
Also in 2a, Columbia won the title at Roxana beating Mater Dei 5-0.
