The Salem Wildcats fell in the 2a Greenville Regional finals losing to Teutopolis 4-1 on Saturday. The Cats took an early 1-0 lead on a Drew Davis grounder. The Shoes would answer with a run in the 3rd before taking the lead in the 4th scoring 3 times. In the loss, Josh Powless doubled and had 2 hits with singles from Gavin Zimmermann, Jalen Inlow and Noah Nix who scored the only run. Griffin Day went the distance allowing 7 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 5 in his final game for the Wildcats.
TTown advances to the Breese Central Sectional where they will play the states 4th ranked team in Father McGivney after they won the Roxana regional with an 8-0 win over the host Shells. Nashville eliminated Freeburg to win the Sparta regional 5-1.
Also in 2a finals, Columbia’s Dom Voegele threw a complete game shutout and struck out 12 in the Eagles 4-0 win over Breese Central to win the Columbia Regional.
