The CORLHS Boys Track and Field season came to a close today at the 1A IHSA Sectional Track and Field meet at Nashville.
The Stallions Jr. Elijah Gregory came up just short of qualifying for State in the 3200 meter run finishing 3rd in 10:28.6. He closed the gap on Pickneyville’s Landen Boman but just couldnt quite catch him as Boman ran 10:23. I feel like if he had another 200 meters he would have caught him. Elijah is such a competetor that he battled through a upper respiratory infection and was feeling awful prior to the race and after the race. He still came back and gave it has best in the 1600 meter run as well but you could tell he was hurting and his body just wasnt giving him what he usually has. He finished in 5:07.0. Its a true testament to the heart that Gregory has and the work he puts in. He had a phenominal season breaking several school records!
Zerek Koch also came up 1 spot short of medaling finishing 7th in the 3200 meter run(11:42.2) but scoring points for the Stallions in the meet. Koch also ran the 1600 meter run (5:25.0).
Soph. Isaiah Lyons had a lot to celebrate as he broke the CORLHS School record in the 400 meter dash today in :54.82 finishing 8th overall and scoring a point for COR! The record was previously held by Nolan Heard (:55.27) set in 2018. Lyons had previously broken the school record in the 200 meter dash earlier in the season and was justĀ 0.1 off the 400 record coming in today. It was a big moment for Lyons who had a strong sophomore track season. We will look for big things from him this fall in cross country!
Finally, Freshman Alijah Morris also had a strong day setting 3 PRs in the 110m hurdles (:19.65)(9th), the 200 meter(:26.20), and the 300m hurdles(:48.06)(11th). His freshman teammate Liagel Lyons also PR’d in the 300m hurdles (:56.51). Here is how the rest of the Silver Stallions T n F crew faired today: Discus-Remmington Remington Burleyson 66’0″, Shot Put-Thomas Taylor 28’01”
100 meter-Yillin Lu :12.27 (11th), 400 meter run 1:02.7, Long Jump-Alijah Morris 17’4″, Isaiah Lyons 16’9″.
It was a very successful 2023 season and I’m proud of all that these young men accomplished this year!
