Salem’s Caleb Smith Double Winner At Salem Sectionals

Salem was the sight for the 2a boys sectionals last night.  Salem’s Caleb Smith won the shot and the discus and will compete at state.  Smith had a PR throw of 18.15m in the shot put to edge Centralia’s JehChys Brown who was 2nd at 17.94.  Salem’s Cole Johnson was 8th in a PR throw of 14.21.  Smith threw 53.50 to win the discus, Brown threw it 52.43 and Johnson a PR of 50.17 to finish 1-2-3.  Freshman Ryegan Warren was tied for 4th in the high jump. Alek Bandy 5th in the pole vault, Miking Ettress was 5th in the long jump and Connor Tennyson PR’d in the triple jump going 12.37 good for 6th.

Sean Thornton finished 9th in the 300m hurdles.  The 4×200 team of Ettresss, Greene, Mayes and Thornton were 5th.

Other Salem highlights included long jumper Ben Webster PR of 4.95, Holden Richardson PR in the 110 hurdles in 21.57, Salem’s duo both set PR’s with Austin Woolridge at 57.47 and Caylan Patterson at 57.81 in the 400m.  Connor Tennyson set a PR in the 100m in 12.16.  Ryder Goff PR in the 200 in 26.73.  Caleb Purintun in the 800 in 2:20.29 and Oliver Purcell in 2:44.30.

Other highlights from the Sectionals include Mount Vernon’s Jacari Virden finishing 3rd in the high jump at 1.85 meters (6’0.835″) and broke the Rams school record.  Carbondale’s Austin Dedecker won the 400m in a school record time of 49.83.  The 100m was blazing fast with the top 3 going under 11s.  Joe Schwartz of Waterloo was 3rd in the 1600 but set a school record of 4:19.58.
