The 1a soccer sectionals opened up yesterday. At Columbia Belleville Althoff got goals from Claire Nash and Emma Tell in their 2-0 win over Murphysboro. In the 2nd game, Freeburg got 2 goals from Avery Hesseldenz and another from Allysa Wolf as they knock off Father McGivney 3-1.
2a regional semifinals were played yesterday. Olney lost at home to Waterloo 8-0. They advance to the championship to play the winner of today’s semifinal between Carterville and Centralia that begins at 4pm.
At Harrisburg, Carbondale knocked off Anna Jonesboro 9-0 and Marion over the hosts 7-0. Civic Memorial beat Taylorville 10-0 at Mattoon with the hosts beating rival Charleston 8-1 in the 2nd semifinal. At Triad, the hosts beat Jerseyville 13-1 and Mascoutah nipped Highland 1-0.
