Rain totals varied greatly across Marion County as a severe thunderstorm moved southeast through Southern Fayette County into the northern and central part of Marion County.

Of rain totals so far, Patoka Township Road Commissioner Earl Shipley is reporting 3.5 inches of rain in the Patoka area.   The Salem Water Plant recorded 1.38 inches of rain.   The heavy rains missed the southwest corner of Marion County, with the Centralia water plant recording just 37-hundredths of an in of rain.

As the heavy rain came, the National Weather Service first issued a flash flood watch, which turned into a flash flood warning and then an eventual flood warning.

While water levels have already subsided in many places, some low-lying road crossings are still underwater Monday morning.  They include the North Fork, Flat Creek, and Deer Creek crossings in Patoka Township.

Some hail was also reported in the area of the Marion-Fayette County line as the heavy storms moved through resulting in the posting of severe thunderstorm warnings for Fayette and Marion Counties.  Another earlier storm resulted in a severe thunderstorm warning in Washington County.

With Raccoon Lake just two and a half inches below the spillway, Centralia Water Plant officials are opening one gate of Raccoon Lake about six inches which should not be enough to cause downstream flooding.

The Salem Reservoir was 8 inches over the spillway at one point overnight, but dropped to 4.9 inches by seven Monday morning.
