It soon will be easier for women to get hormonal birth control.
Spokesperson Mike Claffey says under a standing order from the Illinois Department of Public Health, licensed pharmacists can now take a training course and begin dispensing contraceptives
“The consumer will not have to go to a doctor to get a prescription. It will make these kinds of contraceptives more accessible to many many women in the state. That is the whole goal here.”
Birth control available includes the pill, hormonal patches and vaginal rings, and injections. Patients should contact their local pharmacy to see if and when this service will be available.
