A 21-year-old Iuka man has been ticketed for driving under the influence at the time his pickup truck crashed into a car making a left-hand turn from West Main to Hotze Road on the west side of Salem the evening of May 4th.

The ticket filed against Justin Bullard was completed by one of the State Troopers handling the crash and filed at the Marion County Circuit Clerks’ office.  The charge was filed under the statute for a first or second DUI offender.  Bullard has had a June 6th 1st appearance set on the charge.

Meanwhile, Marion County State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth says he was waiting for complete reports on the wreck from State Police before making a decision on any charges, if any, he will file in connection with the crash.

The crash claimed the life of 66-year-old Nita Mobley of Salem.

Both Bullard and a passenger, 25-year-old Austin Back of Iuka, were taken to Salem Township Hospital and later airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital with life-threatening injuries following the crash.

Mobley’s vehicle caught fire after impact.  The Salem Fire Protection District was called to put out the fire as well as remove Bullard who was trapped in the pickup truck.
