The Salem Wildcats fell at state ranked Altamont 4-2 yesterday. Salem could only muster 1 hit against senior Mason Robinson. He would strike out 10 and walk 4 allowing 1 earned run. Salem’s hit came on a 2-run double from Josh Powless to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the 6th. Rhett Detering took the loss going 4.2 allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs with 4 strikeouts. Colton Shelton got the final 4 outs of the game. Salem will finish up their regular season today at home against Flora before opening the Class 2a Greenville regional next week opening up against the host Comets on Wednesday.
South Central scored in every inning as they short-gamed Dieterich on the road 15-3. Zane Montes had 2 hits and 4 RBI for the Cougars, Aidan Dodson and Anthony Buonaura had 2 each with Chase Thompson driving in a run. Ethan Watwood also drove in 2 runs with a double. Dodson was the winning pitcher allowing 1 hit and 7 k’s. On the season he is now 8-1 with 100 strikeouts. Watwood worked the final 2 innings.
Christ Our Rock completed the championship sweep in the Midland Trail. After beating Waltonville/Sesser-Valier in last week’s tournament championship game, the two teams met against in Centralia yesterday with the regular season crown on the line. Christ Our Rock earned the 5-1 win. Parker Boehne and Omari King both doubled. Jayden Bazile drove in a run with 2 hits, Ethan Peltas also had 2 hits. Da’mari Dabney was the winning pitcher allowing no runs in 5 innings with 7 ks. Boehne got the 2 inning save. Christ Our Rock is back in action today at Mulberry Grove.
North Clay knocked off Cumberland 6-1. Driving in Cardinals runs were Alex Boose, Carder Walden, Ayden Jones and Jesse Weidner. Cody Zimdars was the winning pitcher with Jack Compton working in relief.
Mascoutah knocked off Mater Dei 8-4. Wil Harris and Seth Winkeler had the lone hits for Mater Dei who will play at Breese Central tomorrow.
