The Salem Wildcats kept rolling yesterday knocking off visiting Waltonville/Sesser-Valier 9-0 as Noah Nix tossed a 1-hit shutout. The sophomore needed just 66 pitches to strikeout 12 and walk nobody. Offensively for Salem they got a pair of 2-run homers in the 3rd inning as Gavin Zimmermann and Josh Powless went deep to pull the game out of reach for the Spartans. Drew Davis had 2 hits and 2 RBI as well. Aden Susmena was 2-4 with 2 runs, Brogan Gregg added a hit along with Nate Paulson. Keaton Gullion scored twice and Cooper Lobek added a run. Salem is right back in action today when they travel to Altamont.
The SC Cougars shutout Richland County on the road in Olney 3-0. Anthony Buonaura was the winning pitcher going 6 innings allowing 2 hits and striking out 9. Ethan Watwood got the final outs for the save. At the plate, Aidan Dodson, Buonaura and Calaway Smith had 2 hits each. Also with hits were Chase Thompson, Zane Montes, Max Magnus and Maddux Robb. The SC Cougars are back in action today as well when they travel to Dieterich.
Also last night, Centralia dropped their game with Murphysboro 5-5.
North Clay won the battle of Clay County, winning at home against Flora 3-2. Logan Fleener doubled as part of his 2-hit day and scored a run. Carder Walden had 2 hits and drove in a run and freshman Trent Ingram had 2 RBI on the day. Jesse Weidner singledIan Jones was the winning pitcher.
