The City of Salem is beginning work on a 2024 Strategic Plan. The city’s new Director of Economic Development Leah Dellicarpini is heading the process.

“We’ve put together a strategic planning team comprised of key members of the community, some council members, and then city department heads.  They will meet and go through an 8-hour day of strategic planning but before that happens we need community input.  We need people who live and work in the community to provide their perspective and feedback on what’s going well and not going well, where do we see the city heading?”

Dellicarpini says the public input sessions are set for six pm on Tuesday, May 23rd, and at two pm on Wednesday, May 24th at the Salem Community Activity Center.

“We’ve got an outside facilitator coming in so no member of the city council or government will be present during those sessions so nobody will get their feelings hurt or get defensive and the public can speak open and honestly with the facilitator.  They can go through the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats exercise and give them a whole bunch of feedback.”

Dellicarpini says the facilitator will then provide the information to the city for use in developing the new Strategic Plan. She says part of the plan will be to develop a vision and then some goals for the future.
