On a very windy day but with plenty of sunshine, the Wildcats traveled to Mt. Vernon for their final regular season meet of the year.
The host Rams won the meet with the Wildcats placing a distance second.
The Cat’s only first came from freshman high jumper Ryegan Warren with a clear of 5’11”, freshman Austin Woolridge was 6th in the HJ. Caleb Smith picked up 2 second place finishes in the shot and the discus, his best throws were 174’3 and 56’2.5”. Also in the throws Cole Johnson was 3rd in the discus with a toss of 160’12””. Connor Tennyson was 2nd in the triple jump with a career best mark of 39’6”. In the long jump Miking Ettress was 3rd with a career best of 21’.
Carson Huggins had personal best time of 19.6 in the 110 hurdles while in the 300 hurdles Angel Salgado finished in 5th with a career best of 46.89. The freshmen distance guys, Robbie Shober and Hunter Malan were 5th and 6th with times of 4:56 and 5:01.
The 4×200 fosh/soph team took 2nd, the team consisted of Clayton See, Caylan Patterson, Austin Woolridge, and Angel Salgado, while varsity 4×200 team of Sam Greene, Ettress, Tennyson, and Sean Thorton placed 3rd.
Alek Bandy had a busy day as well with a 4th place finish in the pole vault, had Salem’s best time in the 800 and ran a leg of the 4×4 that placed 4th with Greene, Ettress, and Thorton.
The Wildcats pole vaulters will travel to Breese Central for the Cahokia Conference part A meet on Monday, May 8th and then the whole team will travel to East Alton Wood River on Tuesday May 9th for the rest of the events.
