Kaskaskia College Weekly Sports Update

By WJBD Staff May 2, 2023 | 8:12 AM

This weekend’s KC sports action brought with it some successes as well as some struggles as both our Blue Devils and Blue Angels were in action over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Getting in the last games for both these teams should be considered an Olympic sport at this point in the year.

The Blue Devils went up against the Blue Storm from Southwestern Illinois College on both Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th. The Devils pitching staff has been decimated by injury this season and that can really determine the outcome for even the most highly talented team. KC unfortunately dropped the first game on Friday by a score of 15-9. Moving to Saturday, game two of the set was back and forth over the nine innings played. The score was tied going into the ninth when SWIC pushed a run across the plate. The Devils could not match that feat and they dropped game two by a final of 11-10. In the third and final game of the weekend the Blue Storm jumped on the Blue Devils out of the gate scoring in each inning helping them sweep the weekend with a game three win 16-6. On Tuesday, May 2nd,  the Blue Devils will look to snap a four game losing streak when they host McKendree College here at KC at 3:00pm.

On Saturday the 29th the Blue Angels trekked to Robinson for two more games against Lincoln Trail College, whom they had just seen earlier in the week when they won both their games at home against the Lady Stateman. The long drive to Crawford County was worth the time as KC again took both contests against Lincoln Trail winning game one 10-2 and nabbing game two 4-1. This allowed the ladies from KC to sweep the season series with LT, winning all four games on the year. Then in a swift turnaround on Sunday the 30th, the Blue Angels hosted Rend Lake College on Sophomore Day for two games that had been moved at least three times earlier in the season. The celebration of the soon to be graduates would not be spoiled and behind great pitching and home runs from Ivy Smart, Haley Major, and three bombs alone from Sydnee Garrett, KC would take game one by a score of 4-0 and then again pull out game two 9-8. The Blue Angels are currently pushing a 14 game winning streak and tomorrow on Monday, May 1st,  the last two games of the regular season will be played as Southwestern Illinois College comes on over here to KC for games at 2:00pm and 4:00pm.

Catch some action while you can!!! Go Blue Angels and Blue Devils!!!
