Jefferson County Sheriff Jeffrey Bullard says a second person has died as a result of a Friday afternoon crash on Illinois Route 148 a mile east of Waltonville.

The sheriff reports 48-year-old Christopher Sharrow of Bowling Green, Missouri died this weekend at St. Louis University Hospital.

He was the driver of a van that was hit broadside when making a left hand turn onto Cherryville Lane by a vehicle passing multiple other vehicles.

The driver of that vehicle, 47-year-old Lanetta Lomelino of Sessor, was pronounced dead on the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse.   Lomelino’s husband, David Lomelino, was a passenger.    The sheriff says he was last reported in critical but stable condition at a St. Louis hospital.

Both Lanetta and David Lomelino were thrown from their vehicle after impact.   Jefferson Fire officials say Sharrow was still in his vehicle when emergency help arrived, but was not trapped.

Both David Lomelino and Sharrow were taken to SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon and then airlifted by Air Evac to St. Louis hospitals for treatment.

The crash occurred at 3:12 Friday afternoon.  Route 148 was not reopened to traffic until seven Friday night.

A State Police accident reconstructionist is still working on his report.
