Governor JB Pritzker is signing a new law to protect the state’s healthcare workforce as the pandemic emergency officially ends next month.
The bill was sponsored by Representative Bob Morgan of Deerfield, who wants to ensure temporary healthcare professionals can stay on the job.
“As we all know there is a shortage of healthcare workers in our hospitals and doctors offices, primarily nurses. So this addresses a big chunk of that by making sure temporary nurses who began working in Illinois under temporary licenses over the last few years under Covid practice will continue to practice in Illinois.”
These workers will be able to obtain full licensure as well. Morgan says the law also allows for continued access to flu and Covid-19 testing and vaccination at local pharmacies. It takes effect immediately.”
