It is hard to believe that it is already mid-April and the end of the school year is speeding our way. Classes are packing in the information on the way to final exams and our student athletes are packing in the games leading to post season play.
On the tennis courts the Blue Angels and Blue Devils had been slated to have their post seasons continue this past weekend, but due to Sunday’s crummy weather and cold temperatures the Region XXIV Championships at Lewis and Clark CC were moved to Wednesday the 19th at 3:00 pm. Please wish any of our Blue Angels and Blue Devils tennis players good luck later this week!
Looking to baseball, on Friday the 14th, Wabash Valley traveled here to KC to face the Blue Devils for a doubleheader following the game the two teams played on Thursday. The Blue Devils were trying to begin a new winning streak in that doubleheader, but unfortunately were unable to do so against the Warriors. KC fell in both games to Wabash Valley bringing their overall record to 20-18. The next action for the Blue Devils will be this Tuesday the 18th when they go south to Ina to face the Rend Lake College Warriors in a 3:00pm match up.
KC Softball had a successful weekend as they competed with Southwestern Illinois College on Friday the 14th in Belleville, and Southeastern Illinois College at Harrisburg on Saturday the 15th. At SWIC the Blue Angels jumped on the scoreboard with an early run in the first inning, scored two in the second, and one in the third on a Maddie Bailey solo home run. Pitching hit a pothole in the fourth inning as SWIC scored seven runs of their own pulling into the lead. Moving into the top of the seventh inning the Blue Angels were down by two, but sophomore Josie Grunloh came through with a clutch three run inside the park home run to put the Blue Angels back into the lead by one. The Blue Storm did not lay down though, coming back with a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game into extra innings. In that extra frame the Blue Angels exploded for seven tallies and shut the door on the Blue Storm in the bottom of the inning winning by a final of 17-10 in game one. In game two the offence was a little less explosive but still showed up when it needed to. KC scored a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth which allowed them to take game two from SWIC by score of 5-4. On Saturday in Harrisburg, the Blue Angels cruised to a 9-1 victory over the Southeastern Illinois Falcons in their first game. Unfortunately game two was canceled due to bad weather. The team is 24-13 overall, holding a 12-7 mark in conference play. The ladies’ next games will be tomorrow on Tuesday the 18th here at home against the Rend Lake College Lady Warriors at 2:00pm and 4:00pm.
Take is the beautiful weather we have this week and catch some action to support our student athletes!!
