The Salem Wildcats have won 6-straight and are 9-9 on the season after a pair of wins on Saturday.
In the opening game that lasted over 3 hours, Salem held on to beat Newton 11-9. Salem led 7-5 in the sixth when they plated 4, only to see Newton score 3 in the 7th before the Cats could squash the rally. Aden Susmena drove in 2 along with Colton Shelton, Josh Powless and Gavin Zimmermann. Isaak Williams, Drew Davis and Kam Wilkins added RBI. Keaton Gullion scored 2 runs. Noah Nix was the winning pitcher going 32. Allowing 5 hits and no earned runs with 7 strikeouts. Rhett Detering got the final 2 outs for the save.
He was the starting and winning pitcher in Salem’s 2nd game when they won at Robinson 10-3. Jalen Inlow had 2 hits and 3 RBI with Williams also driving in 3. Griffin Day doubled and drove in 2 with RBI also from Susmena, Nix. Detering went 5 innings in the win allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run. Josh Powless worked the final 2 innings. Salem tries to make it 7 straight wins when they play at Breese Central tomorrow.
