Keep Salem Beautiful Great American Clean Up expanding this year

By WJBD Staff Apr 17, 2023 | 8:27 AM

A challenge has led to a big expansion to the Keep Salem Beautiful Great American Clean Up this upcoming Saturday.

Kelley Predium is coordinating the effort.

“We were challenged by the Rotary to grow this event and invite other clubs and organizations.  We are up to 12 registered organizations and over 100 people registered for our event.”

But Predium hopes others will join in as well as the event becomes more than just a cleanup of Bryan Memorial Park.

“In the past we due to our limited volunteers we have kept the clean up to the park area.  But this year we are targeting the city of Salem.  This is a city wide cleanup and so the city is working to identify some areas around town that need some tidying.  Then the clubs will volunteer to go clean up those neighborhoods.”

Those who want to join in should be at Shelter Two in Bryan Memorial Park by nine Saturday morning to get an assignment.   They will work until eleven and then return to the Salem Aquatic Center concession stand for a hot dog lunch provided by the Crouse Funeral Home.   Predium feels it is appropriate to launch an expanded KSB cleanup effort on the 25th anniversary of the start of the Great American Clean Up.

Salem will also celebrate Arbor Day this upcoming weekend.  A tree donated by Rural King will be planted on Friday in Bryan Memorial Park and Mayor Nic Farley will read a proclamation declaring Arbor Day in Salem as part of the Saturday activities.
