Blue Angels and Blue Devils Update

By WJBD Staff Apr 14, 2023 | 11:12 AM

The Blue Angels Tennis team downed Illinois College 6-3 on Wednesday and using the confidence that they gained in that match the Angels traveled to Southwestern Illinois College for the Region XXIV tennis semifinal yesterday on Thursday. The ladies played really well and won that postseason match 7-2! They will now play this coming Sunday at Lewis and Clark in the Region XXIV final at 1:00pm. The Blue Devils Tennis team did not see the same results at Illinois College, coming up a few matches short in a 5-4 final. The Blue Devils hope to rebound though as they play this Sunday as well in the Region XXIV final at Lewis and Clark at 1:00pm. Good luck to our tennis student athletes this weekend!!!

Switching from the court to the dirt, the KC Blue Angels are flying a four game winning streak as they were able to tally two more wins in conference Thursday at home on the diamond, rebuffing the Olney Central Lady Knights. KC was down early in game one and still behind going into the later innings. After a three run home run from sophomore Josie Grunloh they inched closer, then chipped away each inning to a solid 7-6 win. In game two the offense and pitching was consistent each frame and the Blue Angels rolled to a comfortable victory of 8-1. Freshman Karlie Mackenzie had herself a day in the circle and picked up the pair of wins for the Blue Angels with fantastic pitching in both games. The Blue Angels will lace up the cleats again tomorrow at Southwestern Illinois College against the Blue Storm at 2:00 and 4:00pm.

For the Blue Devils, Thursday they played the Warriors of Wabash Valley in Mt. Carmel. The offence was able to have some timely hits and plated 10 runs in the game over nine innings. However, the Warriors doubled the Devils up on the scoreboard scoring 20 runs of their own. That handed the Blue Devils a hard loss, but the team still has an overall winning record of 20-16. The team will have a chance to avenge that loss to Wabash Valley in a doubleheader tomorrow on Friday, here at KC. The two game were originally slated for Saturday, but they have been moved to Friday due to possible pesky weather. Game one will begin at 12:00pm noon and game two will follow around 3:00pm.
