The Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School Track and Field Boys team with only 10 athletes competing took 3rd place Tuesday at The Altamont Lutheran High School Invitational with 64 pts narrowly missing 2nd place by just 3 points.
Tommy Taylor got the day going in the throwing events picking up a point in 8th place in the discus while Isiah Lyons long jumped a person record 16ft 6in placing 3rd.
On the track the 4×800 team of Zerek Koch, Yilian Lu, Isiah Lyons and Elijah Gregory won the event in 9:15.2! The same group of Koch, Lu, Lyons and Gregory would end the meet running the 4×400 taking home 2nd place in 3:55.7. The 2nd fastest recorded 4×400 time in school history.
Not only did Jr. Elijah Gregory run anchor in both of those events (2:12/:56), he also capped of an amazing day by winning the 800 meter run in 2:09.5 and the 1600 meter run in 5:13.7. His teammate Soph. Zerek Koch held off a North Clay runner at the finish line to take home 2nd place in the 1600 meter run in a personal best of 5:21.1. Isaiah Lyons also ran a personal best in the 400 meter dash winning the race in :55.8 just .6 off of the COR school record. Sr. Yilian Lu was also 5th in the 100 meter dash in :12.80.
For the Lady Stallions Jr. Sarah McKowen won the girls 1600 meter run in 6:12.1 and was 2nd in the 800 meter run in 2:35.2. Soph. Madi Nolte was 7th place in both the Shot Put and Discus and newcomer Lillian Wedekemper was 4t in the 100 meter dash (:16.3) and 4th in the 300 meter hurdles(1:04.6), 6th in the 100 meter hurdles (:23.6) and 8th in the 200 meter dash (:35.2) It was a great day for our boys and girls teams.
Coach Tim Koch told WJBD/WSIQ Sports, “The boys really impressed me in their relays and also put in some outstanding individual performances! Our girls keep competing hard and getting strong. It was nice to get a good weather day and see what our athletes are capable of under good weather conditions!”
