The Salem Wildcats beat themselves with base running blunders, defensive miscues and the Midgets of Freeburg capitalized with a 2-1 win. Salem’s defense made 2 big errors in the game and were picked off the bases twice and doubled off another time when trying to rally. Griffin Day allowed 7 hits and 2 runs, just 1 earned while striking out 3 and didn’t walk anyone. Offensively, Isaak Williams was 2-3 with a run, Noah Nix drove in a run and Jalen Inlow and Josh Powless had the other Salem hits. The Cats fall to 3-7 on the season and 1-2 in the Cahokia. They will travel to Belleville East today weather permitting.
The Salem JV lost to Freeburg on the road 13-3 in six innings as they were outhit 15-5 and committed 3 errors. Rhett Detering and Braden Rector drove in the Salem runs. Deytin Parker singled along with Aden Bass and Eli LoGrasso had 2 hits and a run. Cody Beard and Aden Rostance pitched for Salem.
Also in the Cahokia, Columbia claimed the early season pole position with their 13-1 win over Breese Central. Dominic Voegele struck out 7 in the Eagles win.
Roxana beat Wood River 13-3.
Christ Our Rock moved to 6-0 with their 17-1 four inning win over Woodlawn. Jayden Bazile doubled twice and drove in 5 as part of his 3 hit day. Ethan Peltas, Christian Nollman and Colton Oelze drove in 2 runs each with RBI also from Lendon Isaiah, Nolan Thompson, Brayden Albert and Drew Leuking. Albert was the winning pitcher going all 4 allowing 3 hits and striking out 4.
North Clay fell to 5-3 with their loss to Newton 5-0. Sparta shutout Okawville 11-0.
