The SC 14u Storm Chasers had a good opening weekend at the April Fools Slugfest in Chatham.    Playing without a pair of starters who are currently starting on their respective High School teams, they battled hard and fell in the final four Sunday in the gold bracket to top-seed Diamond Dawgs 6-5.  SC trailed 6-3 heading into the final inning but plated a pair of runs and had the tying run at 3rd base when the comeback was cut short.  Payton Gullion was the starting pitcher going 4 innings allowing 4 hits and no earned runs with 4 strikeouts in the no decision.  At the plate, Garret Shumate tripled and drove in a run, Keytin Grawe tripled and added an RBI, Kaiden Harrell and Sebastian Kruger also drove in runs with Payton Gullion and Boston Isaacs adding hits and Luke Shumate singling twice and scoring.

SC opened the tournament with a 6-3 win Saturday night against the Future Swings.  Payton Gullion had the go-ahead 2-run single in the 4th inning to make a winner out of Avery Gullion who worked 2 innings of relief striking out 6 and giving up no earned runs.  Garret Shumate got the save.  Isaacs allowed just 3 hits in his start.

SC and the Illinois Gators tied Sunday morning to finish pool play with a 2-2 tie.  Avery Gullion drove in a run and Gavin Meinhart and Payton Gullion combined to give up 2 earned runs with 7 ks.

SC bounced back and took on the Gators right after that in the opening round of bracket play and came away with a 3-0 win.  Garret Shumate struck out 14 in his 5 innings of work to get the win.  Avery Gullion got the 2 inning save with 4 strikeouts.  At the plate, Meinhart doubled and scored, Harrell drove in a run, Grawe tripled and scored twice.

SC is off for 2 weeks before traveling to Ellisville, Missouri for the Can of Corn Tournament.
