The Salem 12u finished 2nd over the weekend at the Carterville Spring Fling Tournament falling to the Marion Wildcats in the championship 5-4. Salem outhit Marion in the contest 7-5, but 3 errors were costly. Colton Tockstein doubled and drove in a run. Kai Graham had 2 hits and an RBI with runs batted in also from Zane Applegate and Jared Crompton. Applegate worked 3 innings allowing 3 hits and no earned runs. Owen Tennyson finished off the game working 2 innings allowing 1 earned run.
Salem opened tournament play with a 4-3 win over Sparta. Graham doubled and drove in a run while scoring twice. Applegate and Tockstein also added RBI. Jax Schaubert worked 2 innings allowing 3 hits and 2 earned in the win. Tockstein worked an inning.
Salem tossed a no hitter against Carterville in their 4-0 win. Applegate, Tennyson and Rhett Starnes combined on the mound. Tennysond rove in 2 runs and Graham had a pair of hits.
Salem also beat the Sparta Rays 12-0 to advance to the title game. Tennyson doubled. Bentley Bryan and Graham drove in 2 along with Rhett Starnes. RBI also came from Applegate, Crompton and Trygg Aaron. Tockstein worked all 3 innings allowing just 1 hit and struck out 7.
