The Salem Wildcats opened up the Cahokia Conference baseball season with a nice home win over Breese Central 3-2. Trailing 2-0 in the 3rd inning, Salem sophomore Noah Nix blasted a 3-run homer to give Salem the lead and that would be all Griffin Day would need as the senior went 6.2 allowing 7 hits and 2 runs, one earned, with 5 strikeouts. Nix came in to get the final out and the save. Salem only had 3 hits with Aden Susmena and Josh Powless also adding singles. The Salem Wildcats are 2-4 overall and are right back in action today when they host Odin/Patoka.
