City of Salem receives Chamber’s Partners Award; other finalists announced

The City of Salem has been presented with the Salem Chamber of Commerce Partners in Progress Award.  The chamber has also announced the finalists for five other awards that will be presented at the chamber’s 1st Annual Awards Gala on April first.

Chamber Executive Director Jessiycka Coleman-Nix explained the award to the city.

“They help businesses grow into larger locations, grants offered throughout the city as well as TIF funding that is offered, and really the communication that Mayor Farley has built between the community members and the city.”

The other award winners will not be announced until the April 1st program.

In the new business category, the finalists are The Hole Dozen, Iron Saddle Ranch, Sterling Avenue, and The Thirsty Heifer.

In the small business category, the finalists are the Hole Dozen, the Orchard Shopping Center, Rail Coffee Room, Box Drop of Salem, Blooming Creations, Chuck’s Place, J. Lane Boutique, Midwest Farm and Land Company, The Rusty Nail and Somer Real Estate.

In the Legacy Award, the finalists are Salem Public Works Director Annette Sola, the Orchard Shopping Center, Keith and Tammy McNeil, Marilyn Shetley Shook CPA, Security Alarm, Marion County Savings Bank, and Sharon’s Cafe.

Those nominated for Educator of the year are Brian Lipe, Allison West, and Dr. Brad Detering of Salem Community High School, Amy Daniels of Hawthorn School, Abby Etnier and Haley Metcalf of Franklin Park, Elizabeth Shuler, Chelsea Howe, Kalie Smith and Kristi Consolino of Selmaville Grade School and Melynda Frederick of Odin School.

The finalists for Volunteer of the Year were Annette Sola, Sarah Meador, Daffy Dill Garden Club, Elizabeth Shuler, Joy Conner, Salem Fire Protection District, Leon Chapman, Angie Courtright, Randy Donoho, Kevin and Stephanie Rakers, and Mission Salem.
