The Salem Wildcats dropped their baseball opener at Mount Vernon 9-1. It was 2 big innings for the Rams as they scored 4 in the opening inning and 3 more in the 5th. Charlie Houle had a nice day going 2-3 with a double, triple and 3 RBI. Salem had 4 hits, all singles, from Brogan Gregg, Josh Powless, Kam Wilkins and Gavin Zimmermann. Griffin Day was the starter going 4 innings allowing 3 hits and 4 runs, Colton Shelton and Drew Davis got the final 6 outs of the game. Salem returns to action today when they travel to GCS Stadium in Sauget to take on Collinsville at 4pm.
The Salem JV dropped their opener to the Rams 12-5 in a game that was called after 6 innings due to darkness. Rhett Detering drove in 2 runs, Aden Bass had 2 hits including a double and RBI. Deytin Parker added a hit and 2 runs, Braden Rector singled and Carter Lowe scored a run along with Cooper Lobek. Rhett Detering worked 3.1 allowing 3 hits and 4 runs with 8 strikeouts. Cody Beard, Brody Collier and Eli LoGrasso also worked on the mound for the Cats.
