It was Super Sectional night in Illinois in prep basketball last night. At SIU-Carbondale, the night began with the 1a game that saw Tuscola rout Macon Meridian 74-53. They advance to the State Farm Center in Champaign on Thursday where they get Scales Mound at 11:45 in the 2nd 1a semifinal following Waterloo Gibault and Bloomington Cornerstone Academy at 10am. Gibault knocked off Illini Bluffs at Jacksonville last night 45-44.
In the 2a game at SIU, Teutopolis reversed the curse of losing at the Super Sectional when they finally pulled off the win beating Pinckneyville 42-40 in overtime in front of a packed house in Carbondale. The Shoes advance to the State Semifinals at 2:30 on Thursday afternoon when they get DePaul College Prep followed by Taylor Rockridge and Bloomington Central Catholic.
The 3a game in Springfield went to double overtime, where East St Louis punched their ticket knocking off Sacred Heart Griffin 59-56. Macaleab Rich finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Flyers. Jake Hamilton had 21 points for SHG in the loss. East will play in Friday’s 3a semifinal against Metamora at 11:45 following St Ignatius Prep and Simeon.
In 4a, the final four will be New Trier against Lisle Benet Academy and Downers Grove North playing Moline.
