The Salem City Council Monday night will be asked to move forward on improvements to the city’s dog park in Bryan Memorial Park.
Public Works Director Annette Sola says all the fencing will be replaced.
“Trying to clean up the fence area and make it to where we can separate the small and large dogs and also by putting the matting down around the perimeter of the fence it will stop the dogs from digging holes and getting out from under the fence in the different locations. We’ve had quite a few issues with the old fence. And it’s been repaired so many times it just can’t be repaired again.”
Sola says there will be other improvements as well.
“The dugouts will come out, the backstop will come down, that entire existing fence will come down. We will put some sidewalks in to get people from the parking area to the park without having to walk through the wet grass or the water.”
There will also be some amenities added. Those that can be made by the public work staff will be ready when the fencing project is complete. Sola anticipates that will be in mid May. In next year’s budget, Sola plans to include funding for a shelter inside the dog park.
The city council Monday will be asked to purchase the fencing at a cost of $16,607. To cut costs, public works crews will install the fencing.
