The 1a/2a girls final four semifinals will be held today at Redbird Arena in Normal.

First at 10, the Okawville Lady Rockets take their 32-4 record to the court against Gelena who is 34-1.  The Lady Pirates lost in the state title game by one point a year ago and are led by Gracie Furlong who averages just under 18 points and Addie Hefel around 16 per game.  Okawville returns to state for the 8th time but first since 2006 when they finished 2nd.  The Lady Rockets have hoisted the big trophy twice in their program’s history in 1994 and 2000.  They are led by Alayna Kraus at 19 points per game.

The 2nd game at 11:45 will feature Christopher, making their first ever trip to the state final four, led by junior standout Amiyah Hargrove who averages 25 points per game.  The Lady Bearcats enter at 30-3.  They take on St Thomas More who is 28-6.  This is their 3rd trip to state winning the 2a state title in 2014.

The 2a state semifinals begin at 2:30 first with 33-2 Byron taking on 30-6 Chicago Noble/Butler.

That will be followed by Breese Mater Dei and Quincy Notre Dame at 4:15.  Mater Dei is 25-7 and are the true epitome of “team” when it comes to scoring with nobody averaging double digits on the season.  Mater Dei’s only other trip to state was in 1991 when they lost in their first game.
